About Us

Our school was found in the autumn of 1976. This year we complete 30 years of our founding.

Foundation of an Arts' school in Plovdiv had for long been a dream of prominent artists like: Zlatjo Bojadjiev, Joan Leviev, Dimitar Kirov, George Bojilov, Christo Stefanov etc.

The school is intended to anticipate and develop the artistic gift of children from all over the country, to cultivate and develop the artistic traditions and cultural worths of the nation, to prepare and qualify young generations Bulgarian artists.

In the course of the regular programme of studies all kinds of fine arts are mastered: Painting, Fresco, Graphic, Sculpture and Icon painting. The programme of studies during the last three forms is directed to the specialisation in the request subject. It's quite usual for our students to exhibit one-man-shows. It is a justified daring of an artist who ventures to present himself through his works. Numerous are the participations of our school (and the awards won) in different national and international contests and exhibitions (Japan, India, Great Britain, Poland, Belaruss).

The percentage of our graduates who have passed entrance examinations for different High Institutes is high. Our graduates usually continue their studies in the National Arts Academy, The High Technical Institute, The Institute For Architecture And Civil Engineering, The High Institute For Theatrical Acting, The Sofia University etc. The percentage of those who having won a competition graduate High Arts Institutes in the U.S.A, Canada, China, France, Austria, The Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Germany, Poland, Hungary, Italy, Russia and the Ukraine is considerable too.

Since 1988 on the will of the grantors, Ralitza and Maria Staikov "13 Centuries Bulgaria" Foundation has been granting awards on the name of Atanass Staikov in Painting, Graphics, Sculpture, Fresco and Icon Painting to those of our students who have graduated with honours.

Annually Romphea Gallery holds a competition and grants an annual scholarship to the winner from among our students. Names of our graduates are among the ones of the most esteemed Bulgarian artists; publishers; designers; architects; lecturers at the National Arts Academy, the High Institute of Architecture and Civil Engineering and the National High School.
